City of Unley Walking & Cycling Plan + Wayfinding & Sharrows Strategy
In 2015, InfraPlan was engaged by the City of Unley to review the City’s previous Walking and Cycling Plan and prepare an updated strategy to make the City of Unley safer and more attractive for current and future users. The purpose of the Walking and Cycling Plan was to outline actions that assist people of all ages and abilities to choose active transport more often and improve liveability in the densely populated inner-Adelaide area.
The process included an onsite audit of all cycle routes, priority pedestrian routes and main streets (in accordance with Austroads Guide to Road Design) to assess the safety, connectivity and quality of the existing infrastructure; effective job density and school student mapping (undertaken in GIS) to understand where there was user potential; the development of a future network and action plan; stakeholder and community engagement; and costing estimates for the recommended actions.
In 2017, InfraPlan were subsequently engaged to prepare the City of Unley Wayfinding and Sharrows Strategy and the Wood-Weller Street bicycle route concept designs as direct outcomes of the well received Walking and Cycling Plan. The Wayfinding and Sharrows have now been installed across the City, enhancing journeys for all users travelling through the local area.
